How to Extract Audio From a Video (MP4 to MP3 or WAV) in Your Browser

Last updated: October 24, 2026

A lot of recordings arrive as video: a phone clip, a meeting recording, a screen capture, a voice message saved as a video file. If you only need the sound, you can extract the audio track and leave the picture behind. The result is far smaller and works anywhere an audio file does.

What "extracting" means

A video file is a container that holds separate tracks: one for the picture and one (or more) for the sound. Extracting audio means decoding the sound track and saving it as a standalone audio file. The picture is not touched or re-encoded, so the process is much faster than converting a video.

Step by step with Sayvoi

  1. Open the Video to Audio page.
  2. Drop in your video files (MP4, MOV, WebM and other formats your browser can read).
  3. Choose the output format: MP3 to share or listen, WAV for projects and editing, or FLAC, OGG or M4A.
  4. For speech, set Mono and the sample rate your project needs (16 kHz is common for speech data).
  5. Press Convert all and download the results, or take them all as a ZIP.

The video never leaves your device. Everything runs inside your browser.

After extracting

Check the result before you deliver it. The quality checker reports the sample rate, channels, clipping, noise and silence of each extracted file. For the formats of the video itself, read MP4 vs MKV vs WebM.
